Coastguard tasked to Portstewart Strand

This afternoon (Saturday, 18th July 2020), Coleraine Coastguard was tasked to Portstewart Strand at 2.15pm where three swimmers had got into difficulty. Both response vehicles were quickly on scene and the swimmers were located safely ashore. The three teenagers had been carried out by the undertow and were shocked by their ordeal. Thankfully, they did not require ambulance assistance.

Following this incident, a spokesperson for Coleraine Coastguard said ‘we would repeat our advice to exercise caution when swimming in the sea and, where possible, to remain within the area patrolled by lifeguards.’
